In today’s complex financial landscape, many individuals and families face challenges that can feel overwhelming – especially when unexpected expenses or job loss come into play. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, having culturally safe and trusted financial support services is crucial. That’s where Muru Mittigar steps in.
Through our Community Finance Hub, we offer accessible and confidential financial services to support people doing it tough.
The Community Finance Hub provides free, respectful and non-judgemental services to people from all walks of life. While proudly Aboriginal-led, Muru Mittigar welcomes anyone in need of assistance – whether it’s financial counselling, help with energy bills or even emergency food relief.
Since 2011, the Hub has:
These services not only relieve financial pressure but help people build skills, confidence and pathways toward long-term financial wellbeing.
Small, safe loans for essential items like appliances, medical needs or car repairs – without the burden of interest.
Qualified counsellors work with clients to manage debt, create realistic budgets and explore their options in a confidential setting.
An NSW Government initiative that helps people in short-term financial crisis cover their energy bills. Muru’s staff support the process by creating a budget with the client and issuing a voucher to help ease the pressure.
To apply for EAPA, clients will need to provide:
Emergency food assistance delivered with dignity and compassion.
If you’re a school, community group, health service or not-for-profit organisation, you can work alongside Muru Mittigar to support clients in your care.
Partnership opportunities include:
Muru Mittigar’s team welcomes walk-ins, phone or online enquiries and referrals from other organisations.
Whether it’s through emergency support or long-term financial education, partnering with Muru Mittigar is a powerful step toward strengthening your community’s resilience and empowerment.
