Nourishing Our Community — Muru Mittigar and OzHarvest’s Partnership

Every Thursday, the Henry Street office of Muru Mittigar comes alive with a special delivery that makes a big difference in the lives of many in our community. Between 12 and 18 crates of rescued food from OzHarvest arrive, bringing with them the promise of nutritious meals for those who need it most. This vital service is provided free of charge, helping some of our most disadvantaged community members and their families access healthy food.

The delivery arrives each Thursday at midday, and it’s all hands on deck as the Corporate and Community teams at Muru Mittigar work together to unload the crates from the truck and prepare the food for distribution. The demand is so high that people start lining up at the office doors even before the truck arrives, eager to ensure they can collect food when the doors open at 2pm. Within just 10-15 minutes of opening, the food is usually gone, highlighting the significant need within our community.

This effort is made possible through the incredible work of OzHarvest, a food rescue organisation with a powerful mission: to ‘Nourish our Country.’ Their commitment to stopping food waste, feeding people in need and protecting our planet aligns perfectly with the values of Muru Mittigar and together, we are making a tangible impact on the lives of those who need it most.
