A story about Australia’s most iconic marsupial. There is a popular legend that the Kangaroo didn’t always have a pouch. The story goes — a dingo once chased a baby kangaroo, called a joey and then found protection from its mother. Because the Joey didn’t have a pouch to hide in, it was in danger. An Ancestor Being saw and gave the mother kangaroo a pouch to protect her young, and thus changed the kangaroo’s anatomy!
One of the most iconic Dreamtime stories, full of vibrant imagery and important teachings. The Rainbow Serpent is the ‘Protector of Water’ and symbolises rebirth. The Rainbow Serpent also represents renewal, pertaining to its ability to shed skin; as well, one of the great and powerful forces of nature and spirit. It’s believed that in the Dreamtime, the whole earth slumbers, when one day the Rainbow Serpent woke and came out from under the earth.
The story of Tiddalick the Frog — a giant frog who decided to drink all the water in the entire billabong. The other animals were left with no resources. To get the water back, they made Tiddalick laugh, which caused him to spit out all the water he had consumed. This story displays the importance of sharing with others and turning away from greed.
This story depicts a tale of two families who argue over stingray meat. This tale emphasises the importance of cooperation and the repercussions of selfish acts. It’s a great lesson for kids about the value of sharing and problem-solving together, rather than fighting.
